Birch-leaved Spirea
(Spirea betulifolia)

Form:
Deciduous shrub, 12-30 inches tall, spreading vigorously from
rhizomes; not hairy.

Leaves:
Oval to oblong but wider toward tip, and leaf base tapering to
stalk. Usually coarsely toothed above middle; dark green above, pale below.

Flowers:
Tiny and dull white, often with pale pinkish or lavender tinge,
in dense nearly flat topped clusters. Fruits are 5 pod-like beaked capsules, joined at base.

Habitat:
Widespread in dry to moist forests, open dry rocky slopes
and clearings.

Season:
June-July.
