Lady Slipper, Mountain Lady Slipper
(Cypripedium montanum)

Form:
A small orchid with a single leafless stem that grows from a small
bulb. (Note: if picked, the bulb is pulled up thus the flower will never bloom again--Never pick this flower)

Leaves:
alternate, up to 6 inches, conspicuously veined.
Flowers:
White “slipper” with purple veins set off by leaf-like bract and
two coppery-brown sepals. 1-3 flowers one above the other on stem.
Habitat:
Open woods, often in moist glades. East of Cascades.
Season:
May-June.
