Silky Lupine
(Lupinus sericeus)

Form:
|
1-3 feet with simple or sparingly branched stems from a
|
branching woody crown. Covered with silky, silver to rust colored
hairs.
|
Leaves:
|
Palmately compound, mostly on stem, stalks longer than
|
leaflets. 7-9 leaflets appear greyish-green from hairs covering
both sides.
|
Flowers:
|
Pea-like, deep blue to lavender, with whitish to yellowish
|
markings at base of wing petals. Banner petal is hairy on back.
|
Habitat:
|
Open Ponderosa forests, dry grasslands.
|
|
Season:
|
Late May-June.
|
