Silvercrown, Cut-leaf Luina
(Cacaliopsis nardosima, Luina nardosima)
Form:
To 4 feet tall, stout erect stem. Plants quickly wither and
disappear by mid July.

Leaves:
Long-stemmed basal leaves looking like dissected maple
leaves, palmately veined. Up to 10 inches wide. These large leaves appear mid April to May.

Flowers:
A loose arrangement at stem tip. Rather bristly, bright
yellow flower about 1/2 inch across. Held in narrow head by 1 row of bracts. Fruits are a loose cluster of “dandelion” seed heads.

Habitat:
Open ponderosa pine-Douglas fir forests.
Season:
Blooms May to July.
