10-30 inches tall. Stout stem with nodding flowers at tip.

Leaves:

Lower leaves whorls of 5-9, upper leaves scattered and

alternate, lancelike.

Flowers:
|
Small (1/2 inch ) lemon
yellow to orange with yellow
|
center, maroon spotted, stamens all parallel
or barely spreading.
|
Habitat:
|
damp rich soils, meadows and forest openings.
|
|
Season:
|
June-July.
