Greenbelt Committee Meeting
June 25, 2005

Attending: Jude Toenyan, Sharyl Nelson, Mary Bunney, Pam Nicklas, Lorelei Olson, Bobbie Lambert

Benches; Bobbie had quotes from three companies which supply benches for parks and recreation.  The group decided on the in-ground 6 foot, recycled plastic bench.  We can get 4 of them for our budget of $1500.  Bobbie will order them.  We decided to place them

1) At the overlook on Balsamroot trail,
2) At the end of the water access trail off Saddle,
3) at the top and bottom of the sledding hill.

We will need premixed concrete, someone to dig holes to put the concrete in, and people to carry the materials to the sites.  Hopefully some of the men on our committee could help in July.

Community Wildfire Protection Plan.  Bobbie and Sharyl attended the CWPP meeting at Redtail Canyon Inn. Although this meeting related to the Leavenworth fire district plan, it was very helpful to show us how they are approaching it. Each fire district must prepare a collaborative plan. Speakers stressed that the plans will tell the forest service where we want them to do fuels treatment , rather than them just doing what they want. The group for the Ponderosa plan will consist of Mike from Chelan County Conservation District, a representative from the Forest Service, our fire chief, Bruce Merhigi, Arne Arneson and a representative from the Greenbelt committee (Mary Bunney or Bobbie Lambert depending on who is available). Sharyl talked about how the fire department marked homes in Egle Creek to show how defensible they were.  People were surprised and concerned to see how they were rated.  It might be possible to get the fire department to do the same thing here in Ponderosa, and that might get people working on cleaning up around their homes. WE have not heard whether we have gotten the 2006 forest stewardship grant.  Mary Bunney will contact Arne to ask him and also ask when the date for the CWPP meeting will be.

Bonneville Powerline clearing.  Tom Morgan from Bonneville power, will be here on Tuesday July 5 at 3 PM to walk the powerline and discuss what clearing in necessary.  We will meet him at the watertower on Primitive Park Rd. at 3 PM.  Anyone interested is welcome.

Camp 12 Rd fire emergency exit.  Pam suggested that representatives from Ponderosa meet  with representatives from Standing Rock to discuss maintaining the Camp 12 Rd in a condition that would permit emergency use. I will refer this to the board.

Work party- We spread bark on Mockorange trail, put up the trail sign, weeded the pool slope.  During the month Pam, Dick , Sharyl and Bobbie had put up trail signs on Balsamroot and cleared Mockorange in preparation for bark spreading.

Next Work party-  Saturday July 16-- (one week early since Bobbie will be gone July 23).
