GREENBELT
COMMITTEE UPDATE MEETING MINUTES
Sunday, June 17, 2006
The
Greenbelt Committee had an “update” meeting
in the Ponderosa Office at 9:00AM for people to report
what they had learned or done in the past week. PRESENT: Bobbie
Lambert, Gina Wilkins, Lorelie
Olson, Pam Nicklas and Mary Bunney (Judy Toenyan was absent
but proviced a written report.)
PROJECTS: Judy
reported that she has 2 Balsamroot, 2 Aster and 1 Lupine
sign.
1) Lupine
Trail: Judy
is in the process of writing the homeowners who have
violated the Greenbelt by placing debris from their fallen
trees in the area.
2) Logging
Operation just off Primitive Park Road: Judy talked to President Jim Lawson. Jim advised that the loggers will clean
up their debris as soon as it is dry enough to bring
in their equipment.
3) Plain
Hardware Account: Judy
has set up an account so she can charge supplies there
for the Committee. Judy and Lorelie will meet later in the
week to pick up
some sedums for the pool garden
.4) Bluebell
Trail: Pam
found some chips to put on the middle of the trail. Lorelie
and Tim Olson have been weed-eating the trail. Some
trees need to be limbed up.
5) Aster
and Balsamroot Trails: Judy
has started to clip the brush buut needs to take
her weed-eater in and groom a little more. Gina
and Dean Wilkins surveyed the Balsamroot Bridge
and determined it will take some new boards (10’ x
12’),
cement blocks underneath and screws to repair it. Bobbie
may have some screws.
6) Pool
Garden: Lorelie
bought sedums at Plain Hardware and put them
in.. The
caretakers weeded the garden.
7) Pine
Drop Trail: Pam
trimmed back places where it has become overgrown.
8) Mock
Orange Trail: it
is still under water.
9) Pool
Beach Picnic Area: it
will be maintained by the caretaker.
10) Fire Department Flag Pole: Mary
reported that she had cleaned up, pulled
knapweed, dug and raked rocks (the
caretaker broke tines on Roy Dagget’s
rototiller twice trying to dig the rocks.). She set up a watering system, bought
steer manure and peat moss and planted
around the Fire Department Flag Pole. Any additional plants that people want
to donate would be appreciated. Mary
noted that none of this could have
been done without Mike Bunney’s help and suggested that we
have associate committee membership for all of
the spouses who help the Committee. Everyone
agreed.
11) Baseball Field: It
was decided that we do not want the
posts that are at the ball field
and that we donate them to the Building
and Grounds Committee. Bobbie
will contact Nancy Melson.
12) Bonneville Power Lines Area
Cleanup: Judy
checked briefly with Jim Lawson
on the status of the maintenance
contract with Bonneville Power. A
contract will need to be worked
up and signed. Pam
hasn’t heard back from WSU on the bugs. Bobbie
suggested contacting Terry Knoka.
13) Fire Safe Zone Cleanup: Bobbie
met with Fire Chief Bruce Merighi. She
and Bruce set up a cleanup date for
the Fire Safe Zone on July 1st. Anyone
can help. Perhaps
we should get a chipper for debris.
NEW
PROJECTS: Pam revamped her new trails ideas. The
idea of the lower side of Primitive Park Road near the
Reader Board sign is still good but the upper side of Primitive
Park was too steep and involved other private property. Instead
she suggested a walk up the road to the upper water tank
and eventually maybe putting a bench there as the views
are quite nice. Lorelie thought that would be nice and
we could have several of our trails circling the Ponderosa. Everyone
needs to be pulling knapweed on their properties and along
the roads. It
was decided that Pam would pull knapweed along Primitive
Park Road, Bobbie along Riata, Mary on the right side of
Palomino and Gina across the street from her house. The
Lupine Trail will be our first project on June 24.
Respectfully
submitted,

Pool
slope
After
the meeting some of the group looked at the pool slope. The caretakers have weeded it once but
weeds are growing again and the slope is too steep for committee
members. Bobbie talked with Rick who advised that we remove
the bark and plants and put grass on the slope. The
committee agreed with this but would like to keep a 4-5 foot
strip along the pool fence with bark and plants. Some
of the knickkinick can be transplanted to the top row in the
pool garden, and some to the strip along the fence. Bobbie
discussed this with Rick a few days after the meeting and he
felt he could manage the work.
